Volunteer Spotlight: Janet Wills

In the month of August, LIG Global would like to recognize Janet Wills, a dedicated volunteer of ours who perfectly encapsulates the spirit and mission of our organization.

An OR nurse from Dallas, Texas, Janet has always been one to give back to her community. Not only is she a compassionate nurse, but she is also active in animal rescue and often spends her weekends volunteering at the local animal shelter. Besides her devotion to service, Janet loves to read, run, and spend time with family and friends.

Interestingly enough, Janet’s love for service and healthcare is what led her to connect with LIG Global. While on a medical mission trip in Honduras, Janet was introduced to Raghu, a member of the LIG Global team, who shared stories of his experiences with LIG Global’s trips. Janet was instantly hooked, and worked with Raghu to find a way to join an upcoming trip with LIG Global. The next year, Janet embarked on her first service trip with LIG Global to the Dominican Republic. She describes the nerves she felt prior to the trip, as the only person she knew was Raghu and she was travelling alone.

“It ended up being the MOST AMAZING trip I've ever been on and, as corny as it sounds, my life was forever changed,” Janet explains.

After her first trip with LIG Global to the Dominican Republic, Janet returned with the team to help provide healthcare and compassion once again. “I'm also hoping to go to the Philippines and Peru in the coming years!” she states.

Janet shared the various factors of LIG Global that inspire her to repeatedly work with the team. She starts off by explaining the strong connections built while on LIG Global’s trips. “The teammates you're working with, the patients, the workers in the DR, the community - everyone is AMAZING.” She describes the selflessness that every individual displays while on these trips, further motivating her to be the wonderful volunteer that she is! Lastly, Janet explains the pride she feels working with a team that is making a notable difference in the community. On a global scale, Janet has participated in the work that LIG Global completes to change the trajectory of the communities it works with by not only improving their quality of healthcare but by also providing education, compassion, and strong relationships. None of this would be possible without the work of volunteers like Janet and we cannot thank her enough for her dedication to our team!
