Volunteer Spotlight: Jennifer Malinconico

This month, we are lucky to highlight Jenn Malinconico, a dedicated volunteer of ours who has demonstrated her passion and commitment to LIG through the years.

Jenn is the primary nurse for Dr. Debbra Keegan (one of the members of LIG’s advisory board) at The Institute for Reproductive Medicine and Science in East Windsor, NJ. Jenn’s commitment to women’s health has lasted the entire span of her professional career thus far, as she has always worked in the field of women’s health, clearly demonstrating her passion and expertise for the field. While a great portion of Jenn’s time is spent aiding those as they seek women’s health care, she is also a wonderful mother to two daughters, and can often be found on the sidelines of a softball field, cheering on her girls during their travel ball games. In her free time, Jenn enjoys working out, shopping, and traveling.

Being Dr. Keegan’s primary nurse, Jenn has a unique connection to LIG and was able to learn about the organization directly from one of the leaders. Debbra Keegan and Ernani Sadural were able to introduce Jenn to LIG, and show her the many ways we are committed to supporting medically underserved areas across the globe. Upon learning about an upcoming trip to the Philippines, Jenn was instantly compelled to participate; being of Filipino descent herself, Jenn felt a strong connection to the work and wanted to be able to use her skills and knowledge as an RN specializing in women’s health work to give back to her own community in any way possible. Jenn loved her experience with LIG in the Philippines and continued to dedicate her time and efforts to the organization. She has worked with LIG in the Dominican Republic and is hoping to partake in future trips in the near future.

Upon reflecting on her experiences with LIG, Jenn told us why she has loved working with LIG. “What I love most is how genuine and humble the group is,” Jenn explains. She remarked on how the organization is bigger than the individuals that comprise it, with the end goal of each trip being to  provide quality care to each and every patient. The community of volunteers that Jenn has been a part of and has helped create and nurture has been at the foundation of all of our work as an organization. Jenn truly represents everything that LIG stands for and we are extremely grateful for the work she has done with our organization to help transform the lives of the community members we care for during our various trips.
