Volunteer Spotlight: Bobby Ellis

This month, we turn our volunteer spotlight to Bobby Ellis, a current intern for LIG Global who has channeled his passion of service for others as a member of our team!

A northern New Jersey native, Bobby has always channeled his passion for creativity for good. Now 21 years old, he is currently studying theatre in New York City with hopes of continuing to entertain those around him in his future. While Bobby has a love for theatre and entertainment, he also embraces opportunities to push himself out of his comfort zone and fully tackle new challenges. Bobby describes his experiences working with LIG Global as opportunities for personal growth while assisting our team in providing high quality healthcare to underserved populations.

LIG Global is quite literally in his blood; Dr. Claudine Sylvester, the current CEO of LIG Global and a practicing OB/GYN, is Bobby’s mother and has helped him get involved in a variety of our projects. From a young age, Bobby has accompanied his mother in her work with LIG Global and had firsthand experiences seeing the care the talented physicians on our team provide to underprivileged regions while also personally helping families through their experiences with our team. Bobby has traveled to the Dominican Republic three times with LIG Global and believes his experiences played a formative role in crafting his understanding of what it truly means to serve others. Bobby is extremely grateful that his mother pushed him to get involved with LIG Global, stating:

“I cannot thank her enough for giving me these experiences that truly shaped how I think about the world and helping others.”

Bobby’s experiences with LIG Global allowed him to form a new community with the LIG Global team, which he is extremely grateful for. Perhaps the most valuable takeaway Bobby had from his work with LIG Global is the selflessness of the team of healthcare professionals and volunteers. “I see a lot of people using the act of helping others to boost their own ego or reputation and that is not what LIG is about,” Bobby explains. The focus of every trip LIG Global coordinates is to provide healthcare, education, and an established relation with the region to provide for the individuals in the community. While it is undeniable that volunteers like Bobby feel a sense of pride and love for their service, their work truly comes from a place of altruism and compassion. We thank Bobby for his exemplary service as both a volunteer and intern for LIG Global and look forward to his future work and success with our team!
