Dajabon, Dominican Republic – Mission Accomplished!
We have been back for about 3 weeks after the completion of the medical mission to Dajabon in partnership with the Waves of Health.
Please enjoy some of the photos which are now posted in our photo gallery!
The LIG surgical arm of the mission worked very hard in a challenging environment (even with episodic power outtages during surgery!). Overall, it was a successful trip with 50 surgical procedures completed. Many thanks to the incredible volunteers who made this grueling schedule possible!
The Waves of Health medical arm of the mission saw over 2000 patients through its out-patient medical clinics. This was possible because of the sheer will and determination of the tireless volunteers who never gave up despite the heat, the crowds and the rudimentary facilities.
Dr. Timmapuri (with the support of the Waves of Health medical clinic and the invaluable contributions of her research partners, Ms. Candice Lopez and Ms. Amina Sadural) was able to successfully complete her part of a research protocol involving a novel form of transmission of ultrasound images from the field.
Once again, many thanks to our donors – because of your donations-in-kind, thousands of medications, oral hygiene kits, school supplies and flip flops were given to people in need. Because of your monetary donations, our medical and surgical teams were able to do what they do best.
LIG is looking forward to maintaining at least 2 trips to Dajabon per year to continue to serve this kind and grateful community as best we can.
